Dear Citizens:

The City of Spartanburg has been allocated $81,622 under the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Formula Program Local Solicitation. While the funds have been allocated for specific units of local government, organizations must solicit community input on how they choose to use these funds. This survey is being used to share the City of Spartanburg's proposed budget and collect citizen comments relating to each budget area.

This grant provides funding to local units of government for the following areas:

* Law Enforcement programs.
* Prosecution and Court programs.
* Prevention and Education programs.
* Corrections and community corrections programs.
* Drug treatment and enforcement programs.
* Planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs.
* Crime victim and witness programs (other than compensation).

1. Law Enforcement Overtime $34,422.00

Overtime funding will allow the Public Safety Law Enforcement Division to deploy officers in high density shopping areas during the holiday season thereby increasing safety in these areas. The grant will last for three years after awarded.

2. Two (2) Motorcycles, Equipment and Uniforms for Motorcycle Officers $35,000.00

Funding will be utilized to replace older motorcycles that are beyond their service life. Updated safety equipment will be installed on the motorcyles and new uniforms will be purchased for officers operating the units.

3. Mobile Data Terminal Screens $5,000.00

Funding will be used to purchase 10 replacement mobile screens. These items are essential for officers to continue the completion of incident reports from their vehicles and increases officer presence in the community.

4. Tactical Officers' Helmets $7,200.00

Officers performing during tactical situations are exposed to increased safety risks from gunfire. Funding will be utilized to replace outdated equipment that are currently in use. A purchasee of 18 helmets will provide up to date helmets for all officers assigned to the police tactical/swat team.
