Ocean Sciences Meeting Mentoring Programs Registration Form 2014

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

MENTORING PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS/GUIDELINES

There are two specific mentoring programs offered at the Honolulu Ocean Sciences Meeting:

  •     (1) the OSM Meeting Mentoring Program for undergraduate students,
graduate students, and early career professionals, and

  •     (2) the ASLO Multicultural Program (ASLOMP).

There is high interest from potential mentees in both programs, so
mentors are in especially high demand to help mentees navigate the meeting.
NOTE: Mentors must choose to register for one mentoring program only, not both.

WHO SHOULD COMPLETE THIS REGISTRATION FORM:

  •     Mentors for both programs

  •     Mentees wishing to be paired with a mentor through the OSM Meeting Mentoring Program

NOTE: ASLOMP mentees are NOT required to complete the form.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF OSM MEETING MENTORING PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS:

Mentors should use the suggestions below as a guide for participation. At a minimum, Mentors are expected to achieve the first three goals and should plan for further activities as individual schedules allow:

RESPONSIBILITIES OF ASLO MULTICULTURAL PROGRAM (ASLOMP) MENTORS:

NOTE: All PhD-level OSM registrants can sign up as Mentors for ASLOMP (Mentees have already been selected).
This program requires a more significant time commitment than the general mentoring program, but has been instrumental in fostering the next generation of underrepresented students. Responsibilities of Mentors include the following:

  •     Meet assigned students at 3:30 PM on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the Convention Center to help students plan sessions to attend during the meeting.

  •     Spend time with their students each day of the meeting (usually attending a session together).

  •     Introduce students to colleagues.
