1. Visual/print experience & skill levels

 
These questions will ask about your experience with page design and photography as well as what you know how to do in InDesign and Photoshop. Don't worry if you don't know much about any of these items. Your honest self-assessment will help the instructor plan lessons and activities to give you the best possible instruction and training during RENOvation.

1. How well do you know the terminology and parts of a page design?
(grids, gutter, liftout quote, teasers, text wrap, drop cap...)

2. Do you know how to create and use libraries in InDesign?

3. Which version of Adobe Creative Suite do you use?

4. Does your print issue generally have color pages?

5. Do you know how to do a cutout background using selection tools in Photoshop?

6. Do you know how to resize images in Photoshop for printing, including cropping or resizing to certain dimensions and/or adjusting resolution?

7. Do you know how to alter images in Photoshop by using filters, creating special color effects, blurring or improving details?

8. Do you know how to create graphic effects in InDesign, such as drop shadow, transparency, corner effects and more?

9. What is your level of experience designing with a grid structure for page layout in InDesign?

10. What is your level of experience creating infographics?

11. What is your level of experience with using typography in page design? (Consider type styles, leading, hyphenation, point size, drop caps, case...)

12. Are you familiar with the graphic three-peat strategy?

13. How comfortable are you with using photo composition techniques to achieve effects like framing, leading lines, rule of thirds, repetition and selective focus?

14. What is your comfort level with camera settings?

15. What is your level of experience with selecting photos and other elements to tell a story, packaging them and creating a unified visual presentation on a page using InDesign and Photoshop?

16. What size is the print product your staff creates?

17. Which role more clearly describes what you'll be doing on staff?
