The learning objectives for this session were:
1. Participants will gain knowledge of best practices regarding integrating modern mapping technology into historic cultural resource surveys.
2. Participants will learn about working with grassroots organizations and local governments towards gaining support for a heritage area initiative.
3. Participants will gain knowledge of best practices regarding preservation of traditional cultural practices, such as canoe building, journeys and related ceremonies.
4. Participants will leave with tangible resources for future reference, including: National Maritime Heritage Area Feasibility Study, A Maritime Resource Survey for Washington’s Saltwater Shores, and sample maritime community tourism maps.
