1. 2013 California Tribal Water Summit Overview

Action requested by June 15, 2013

The 2013 California Tribal Water Summit was designed and developed by the a work group/Design Team of the of the Update 2013 California Water Plan Advisory Committee in collaboration with the California Department of Water Resources held the 2nd California Tribal Water Summit on April 24 – 25, 2013.

The Summit focused on issues of incorporating tribal/traditional ecological knowledge in water management decisions, indigenous rights to water, and tribal watershed management and land use issues. The goals of the Summit were to develop a dialogue of mutual respect between agencies and tribes on water issues, and work towards maximizing resources and ensure legal compliance for agencies and Tribes through effective partnerships.

The Tribal Water Summit Design team sought to achieve these goals through providing an educational component to Agencies and offering success stories from Tribes throughout the state to identify what is working and where more work is needed.
