This questionnaire is part of an attempt to understand how the human mind works and how we use it. Although we use our minds continuously, we seldom stop to think about it. This questionnaire is an attempt to look into the matter.
Your opinions are important to us whether you ever think about the workings of your mind or not. You do have a mind, and like all of us, you use it in your own way, so your willingness to reveal something of what goes on in your mind will be most helpful.
While we can't guarantee you'll benefit personally from participating in this research, it is possible that answering these questions will encourage you to think about your thinking process, your beliefs, your desires, and your choices. This is likely to be a good thing. However, it's also possible you'll find thinking about these matters challenging and stressful.
There are no "right" or "wrong" answers to any of these questions. We are looking for patterns in thinking, not judging "correct" or "incorrect" responses. So it is important that you answer as honestly as you can. While we want your answers to reflect your thoughts and feelings accurately, your answers will be most useful if you respond after thinking for no longer than a moment or two. Respond according to how you are, not what you strive to be.
The survey has an Introduction page (which you are now reading), four question pages, and a Conclusion page. The first, third, and fourth question pages are relatively short; the second question page is much longer. You can move through the survey step by step by clicking the "Next" button at the bottom of each page. You can go back to a previous page by clicking the "Prev" button at the bottom of each page. When you finish the last page, the Conclusion, you can submit your responses by clicking the "Done" button. Then you will exit the survey, you will not be able to go back, and your responses will be recorded. This whole process should take about a half hour. Because of the way this website is designed, you must complete the questionnaire in one sitting; you cannot reopen your questionnaire once you close it.
There are no consequences for participating in this study or for refusing to do so. We wish you to complete this questionnaire only if you do so freely and comfortably. You can opt out of the survey at any time by clicking "Exit this Survey" at the extreme top right of each page, and your responses will be deleted.
Finally, thank you for your generosity in taking this survey. Thank you so much.
