The Kentucky School Garden Survey

The Kentucky School Garden Network (www.kyschoolgardens.org) is collaborating with Brightside and The Partnership for a Green City to create a data base and needs assessment of schools involved in gardening.

Over the past years Brightside has developed the Outdoor Classroom Registry. The last count in 2006 there were over 70 registered gardens and or outdoor learning environments. The Kentucky School Garden Network is working with Brightside and the Partnership to update the list. If you do not want your name listed on the on line registry, please check the box in question # 5 on the survey.

The purpose of the registry is to maintain a current contact list of schools, teachers, students and or community members/organizations who are involved in using their school, community gardens and outdoor projects to develop healthy, active and environmentally responsible young people.

Please register even if you only have the interest and have yet to get started. Also register if you are interested in or currently working with a garden off site of your school campus, like a community garden. There are several advantages of working with an existing gardens in your community if they exist.

By completing the survey you will:

* Have the option to receive regular updates on grants, professional development opportunities and assistance in getting started and/or maintaining your school outdoor classroom.

* Demonstrate the level of interest in expansion of school gardening and/or the use of outdoor environment

* Help focus future initiatives of the school gardening community to work on projects that will help your school.

This survey is completely voluntary, you can skip any question you wish to. Beyond the registry contact information any data analysis will be done anonymously

All respondents who complete the survey by February 19, 2009 will shall be put into a pool to possibly receive a special donation that will help with their school garden work.

Thank you once again for helping us focus our work so we can help you better! There are five sections to the survey. Section V: Gardening at your schools - questions 17 to 26 are for teachers, administrators or garden sponsors at facilities with school gardens already.
