BMX Interest in New Hudson: Non-riders

1. The Project

The Lyon Township Park Advisory Committee is investigating activities which would work well at the James F. Atchison Memorial Park (formerly Lyon Township Community Park). One option being discussed is a non-motorized BMX (bicycle motocross) track similar to Waterford Oaks BMX in the Oakland County Parks System (Waterford) and Capitol Area BMX in Lansing. The proposed track would not be a free-style nor stunt location, nor would it take the place of any existing recreation facility within the park. It would be free of charge to the public on non-scheduled days; minimally, there would be one scheduled race and one scheduled practice each week from May to September. The track would be associated with either the National Bike League or the American Bicycle Association, both of which promote racing for males and females and from ages 5 to over 45.

We are seeking feedback from individuals interested in participating in the sport of BMX as well as persons willing to join a volunteer organization which would be responsible for the operations of the track. We would also like to speak to local businesses which might support such an activity.
