National Certification 2009

1. Introduction and Purpose

The Oregon State Board of Nursing has proposed rules which would require national certification for all initial NP applicants as of January 1, 2011. National certification could be used before that date instead of CE as part of renewal if the Board accepts rules in November. Currently licensed NPs without national certification will not be required to obtain it by the Board and will continue to use CE and practice for renewal.

National certification is currently required for all Certified Nurse Anesthesists upon initial licensure and renewal. It is not required for Clinical Nurse Specialists or Nurse Practitioners.

We are seeking the feedback of ALL CNMS, CNSs, CRNAs and NPs as well as interested parties on this issue. Please fill out this quick survey for us.
