Hello, my name is Sophie Hong and as well as being a part-time game player, I am a student on the Forensic Psychology MSc at London Metropolitan University in the UK. I am carrying out some research into the relationship between video game use and different types of positive and less positive behaviour.

A current heated debate in this area is about whether playing violent videogames might lead to aggressive behaviour, and in extreme cases to the violent school shootings you may have heard about on the news. More recently, researchers have started to find that playing computer games could have good influences, for example, in developing certain kinds of positive skills and abilities.

What I am doing in this research is attempting to fill in the gaps in what we know about the actual influences of video game use in the present day. If you are a game player, and you play for at least two hours a week on average, I would really appreciate your help with this research.

I am looking for volunteers to complete an online survey about their game use and about their likely behaviours and thoughts in certain situations that they might have experienced. Volunteers will also be asked to guess how they think that a fictitious character might respond in a certain situation.

Although there is nothing rude or inappropriate in this survey, for ethical reasons I’m afraid that you need to be at least 18 years old to take part. If you think that you might be the kind of person that I’m looking for, and you would be willing to give 10-15 minutes of your time to help researchers like me to understand what playing video games can really do for you, please click below to proceed to the next page.
