Description:
Are your students coming to class with their Ipods on? Do you find them texting when they're supposed to be working? Do you sometimes feel like you're not getting through? Even though students are comfortable using technology, they may not be using it appropriately. Sadly, few social guidelines have been developed that help guide us to use digital technologies. Let's face it. Over the years we've all come to interact with each other using tools such as text messaging, Facebook, Ebay and more. We have, in fact, created our own digital society and have become digital citizens.
As schools and society become inundated with digital technologies, there must be a structure that can teach our students and colleagues how to act with respect to technology. What's appropriate and what's not when using technology.
This workshop will introduce you to the concept of becoming a Digital Citizen and introduce the Nine Elements that make up a Digital Citizenship program. We'll discuss issues like proper email etiquette, communicating in a digital society, buying and selling on the Internet, legal issues dealing with copyright and plagiarism and many others.Come prepared to learn!
