Marriage Equality USA believes in the power of a personal story and the people that tell it. With same-sex couples facing ballot initiatives every election cycle that threaten relationship protections for their families and states like California and Maine working to regain that marriage equality which was taken away with the passage of Prop 8 and Amendment 1, Marriage Equality USA would like to collect stories from same-sex couples, their friends and family and community members in states that have already achieved marriage equality. If you have a story to share that can help illustrate the benefits of marriage equality in your life and in your state, please take a moment to complete this survey.

1. Please share a story that describes how you or others you know react(ed) to the legalization of marriage equality for same-sex couples in your state. What was it like when it was announced, in the days after the marriages began, and today?

2. In what ways have attitudes about marriage equality for same-sex couples changed in your state since these marriages began? Did the legalization of marriage equality change the way that you think about yourself, your future, or your community? Did it change your hopes or fears for LGBTI family members or friends?

3. Have you noticed any differences on how LGBT people have been treated since same-sex marriages began? If so, can you share a story to illustrate that change?

4. Despite being able to have marriages of same-sex couples recognized in your state, federal recognition is still denied. Can you share any stories to illustrate how the Defense of Marriage Act has harmed your family or other families you know and share why you think it should be overturned?

5. Is there anything else you'd like to share that we haven't asked?

6. Where do you currently reside?

7. In which state/country did you get married (if applicable)?

8. What is your marital status?

9. Please provide the following demographic information, if applicable.

10. If you are willing to share your story with the media, please provide your contact information.
