10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. ROOM 1 • LEED FOR ENGINEERS • More organizations today are considering using sustainability principles for new construction or renovation projects. Projects with sustainability in mind must be approached with a long term vision. The LEED rating system appears to be a good benchmark for design teams to achieve sustainability goals, however, understanding LEED might be a challenge for some. This workshop will discuss the basic elements of LEED and how Engineers can use it.

10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. ROOM 2• ENVIRONMENTALLY PREFERABLE PURCHASING • Environmentally Preferable Purchasing (EPP) Programs are helping public agencies across the country to comply with green purchasing requirements and using the government's enormous buying power to stimulate market demand for green products and services. Learn new environmental standards, policies and options when it comes to buying green.

11:00 a.m. - 12:00 Noon ROOM 1• INTRODUCTION TO GREEN RENOVATION • The workshop provides an overview of green building techniques for designers, contractors and homeowners alike who plan to embark on remodeling their living and work spaces. The workshop will help you learn design principles that can make your building or home green, alternatives to common products and where to find them and how to get your contractor to think green.

11:00 a.m. - 12:00 Noon ROOM 2• WASTE WATER TO RELIABLE WATER, TECHNOLOGY THAT WORKS! • Orange County Water District turned on the world’s largest plant devoted to purifying sewer water to sustain drinking water supplies. This technology will serve as a model for policy makers worldwide who are faced with persistent drought, and other threats to water shortages. Learn how this technology was developed and now used.

12:00 NOON - 1:00 p.m. ROOM 3 • CALIFORNIA NATIVE PLANTS AND GARDENS • This workshop is intended to convey information related to a wide variety of topics about California Native Plants and Gardens. Two of the foremost experts in Native plants will discuss issues related to soils, climate, and orientation when it comes to sun and shade. Attendees will have an opportunity to share their challenges, successes and ask the experts questions. Leading the workshop will be Ellen Mackey a Senior Ecologist, certified by the Ecological Society of America, and a staff ecologist with the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.

1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. ROOM 1 • METROPOLITAN WATER DISTRICT ENERGY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM • Through Board policy Metropolitan has committed to support projects that contribute to its own sustainability as well as the Southern California community as a whole. The workshop will discuss the initiatives and programs that will help reduce Metropolitan’s greenhouse gas emissions, reduce energy consumption and increase renewable energy production.

1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. ROOM 2 • MODEL TOOLS AND IDEAS FOR BUILDING A GREEN HOME • Want to build a green home? Before diving into a green home project, there are underlying ideas that everyone should keep in mind. First, is understanding what makes a building green. This will introduce you to key categories used by green building rating systems and which the presenter adopted in his green home project. These include the type of materials used, design innovations involved, achieving healthy indoor air quality and water efficiency.

2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. ROOM 1• HOW TO DESIGN A CALIFORNIA FRIENDLY GARDEN • The California Friendly Garden is a slice of California's past, filled with Native and California Friendly plants perfectly suited to our mild winters and warm, dry summers. The workshop covers the basics of irrigation systems, watering and fertilizing, basic landscape design and plant identification.

An Electronic Waste Disposal collector will be available during the Fair. You can bring any disposable electronic items from home or work. Please select all electronic waste items you will be bringing to the Fair.

A portion of the proceeds from this collection will be donated to the organization “Water for People for Life.” Water For People helps people in developing countries improve their quality of life by supporting the development of locally sustainable drinking water resources, sanitation facilities and health and hygiene education programs.
