1. Lansdowne Live -- what's your position?

A group of developers has presented a proposal called Lansdowne Live to the City of Ottawa. The developers are requesting a 30-year lease of Lansdowne Park and propose to build a large commercial-residential-retail-entertainment complex with a hotel and an aquarium. They want the City to renovate/rebuild the Frank Clair Stadium and the Civic Centre. The proposal includes sports fields and some green space to be built by taxpayers. The proponents state they want the City to give them an answer on their proposal by the end of March 2009 so they can secure a CFL franchise.

The public consultations about Lansdowne Park's future and the preparation of a design/build competition for the site have been suspended. Since there is no public process for soliciting citizen input on the developers’ Lansdowne Live proposal, the Glebe Community Association has launched this survey to see what the people of Ottawa think about it. Please take a few minutes to answer 10 questions.

1. Should there be more than one proposal considered by City Council and taxpayers about how to develop Lansdowne Park (which is 40 acres in size with an estimated value of $160 million)?

2. Do you agree, as proposed by the developers, that city taxpayers pay 100% of the multi-million dollar cost of rebuilding Frank Clair stadium and assume all financial costs should the CFL franchise fail?

3. Do you agree, as proposed by the developers, that city taxpayers pay 100% of the multi-million dollar cost of fixing up the Civic Centre?

4. Should there be a significant amount of privately owned residential/commercial development on publicly owned land in Lansdowne Park?

5. How should the historic Aberdeen pavilion (Cattle Castle) be used?

6. How should Lansdowne be redeveloped?

7. Should the City accept the conditions set by the developers and agree by March 2009 to turn all of Lansdowne over to them for 30 years, to help them to secure a CFL football franchise?

8. Should the competitive process to design and develop Lansdowne Park be resumed?

9. What is the best site for a professional soccer and football open stadium?

10. Where do you live?
