Dix Scholars may be required to complete the Mathematics Competency Exam Every Simmons graduate must demonstrate competency in basic mathematics and must satisfy the mathematics competency requirement during their first year at Simmons. This skill evaluation has two purposes: to determine if you have fulfilled the math competency requirement and to recommend a math placement that is appropriate to your level of experience in mathematics. Students can fulfill the mathematics competency requirement by:
  • Passing the Mathematics Competency Exam offered at Orientation.
  • Achieving a score of 600 or better on the mathematics section of the SAT or a score of 24 on the mathematics section of the ACT
  • Presenting evidence of satisfactory completion at another accredited college of a mathematics course at the level of MATH 101 OR 102 or above to the chair of the Mathematics Department.
  • Successfully complete MATH 101 or 102 at Simmons.

In order to ensure that there is enough room to accommodate all the students who need to take the exam, please let us know when you plan to come and take the exam.
