INDIANA UNIVERSITY BLOOMINGTON
STUDY INFORMATION SHEET
As a man/As a woman Survey
You are invited to participate in a research study. We ask that you read this form and ask any questions you may have before agreeing to be in the study.
The study is being conducted by Joel Wong, Ph.D. at Indiana University and Munyi Shea, Ph.D. at California State University.
STUDY PURPOSE
This purpose of this research project is to understand individuals’ personal experience of what it means to be a man or a woman. Through your participation, we hope to better understand men and women’s gender meaning-making experiences.
PROCEDURES FOR THE STUDY:
If you agree to be in the study, you will complete an online survey which will take approximately 30 – 45 minutes. To help us analyze the research findings accurately, we encourage you to respond to every question in the survey. Nevertheless, with the exception of a question about your gender (female or male), you may skip any question you are not comfortable answering.
CONFIDENTIALITY
Efforts will be made to keep your personal information confidential. We cannot guarantee absolute confidentiality. Your personal information may be disclosed if required by law. Your identity will be held in confidence in reports in which the study may be published. All data collected will be kept confidential and there will be no link to any individual responses.
Organizations that may inspect and/or copy your research records for quality assurance and data analysis include groups such as the study investigator and his/her research associates, the IUB Institutional Review Board or its designees, and (as allowed by law) state or federal agencies, specifically the Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP).
PAYMENT
To thank you for your participation, we invite you to enter a draw for one of four $50 cash awards. We hope to recruit 600 participants; the estimated odds of winning an award are 1 out of 150. At the end of this survey, you will be given instructions on how to enter the draw. You will NOT be required to provide any personally identifying information (e.g., your name or email address) in the survey, although this information is necessary for the draw.
To participate in the draw, you will need to complete the survey. However, you may choose to withdraw from the survey at any time without penalty.
