EcoAdapt Climate Change Adaptation Survey

1. Introduction

Climate change is now widely acknowledged as a global problem. Adaptation and mitigation are the two responses commonly taken to address actual and projected climate change impacts. Preparing for and responding to the effects of climate change is commonly referred to as "adaptation," while "mitigation" refers to efforts to reduce the causes of climate change - greenhouse gas emissions.

EcoAdapt is in the process of creating an inventory of past, current, and proposed climate change adaptation activities and projects. This information will be used to populate the Climate Adaptation Knowledge Exchange (CAKE), an online adaptation destination. The site, developed in conjunction with Island Press, will serve as a repository for the information collected, as well as a focal point from which people interested in adaptation can communicate, share ideas, collaborate and participate. CAKE will provide a georeferenced database of adaptation case studies from our inventory, direct users to resources, and facilitate the creation of a network of people interested and/or actively engaged in climate change adaptation.

We invite you to fill out and/or forward the following survey to your organization’s climate change contact. The survey should take no longer than 10 to 15 minutes. By participating in this process, you will provide critical input that will be extremely helpful in determining the status of climate change adaptation work in North America. If you complete the survey, you will be automatically incorporated into the CAKE adaptation network directory, unless you indicate otherwise. Any contact information you enter will only be used for the purposes of this project. Thank you again for your time and valuable input.

If you have any questions, please direct them to adaptationsurvey@ecoadapt.org.
