Request an Accessible Route Evaluation

Introduction

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) would like to hear from you about your experience regarding the accessibility of public roadways and roadside features such as:
  • sidewalks
  • curb ramps
  • street crossings
  • pedestrian signals

What will WSDOT do with this information?

We will use your comments to:
  • evaluate the accessibility of the features included in this survey
  • identify locations where there are accessibility problems
  • follow up by letting you know what actions we will take

We will thoroughly evaluate the merits of every case and are committed to providing equal access to state-owned roadways, where feasible.

Not all roadways are WSDOT’s responsibility, so we may respond to your comments by forwarding them to the appropriate city or county with responsibility for that particular location. However, under Washington law, we do not have authority to compel another jurisdiction to take action.

How do I know who is responsible for a particular roadway?

In general, WSDOT is responsible for state highways and interstate freeways. Any roadway that includes either the words “state route” or “SR” or “Interstate” or “I-“ such as I-5, in its name, is within WSDOT’s jurisdiction. When a state highway runs through a large city (population 25,000 or more) it becomes the city’s responsibility. In those cases, we can sort that out for you.

Counties are responsible for roadways outside of city limits, and cities are responsible for streets and avenues within city limits.
