Dear Survey Participant,

Thank you for your willingness to participate in this statewide survey of salvage yards in Vermont. The Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has created this survey for the purpose of determining the number and location of all salvage yards within the state. Earlier this year the Vermont Legislature passed a new law transferring jurisdiction of salvage yards from the Vermont Agency of Transportation to DEC. In addition to this transfer the new law requires that DEC report back to the Legislature regarding some basic demographic information about salvage yards in Vermont. Your participation in this survey will help us make that report as complete and informative as possible.

This survey consists of two short parts. First is basic demographic information about you so that should we have questions we are able to contact you to try to resolve them. During this part of the survey we also inquire about the total number of salvage yards in your community. The second part of the survey seeks basic information about the salvage yards located within your community and about the kind of activities that take place at these yards. We have also provided narrative space for you to include other information you think is important about a specific salvage yard. The survey should take approximately five to ten minutes to complete depending on the number of salvage yards you are reporting.

As mentioned above, the information you provide will be used in DEC’s report to the Legislature as well as in our efforts to be sure all salvage yards are licensed and operated in conformance with the new law. If you have questions or problems related to the survey please contact us at 802-241-3820 so we can assist you.

Thank you again for your time.
