SECTION I: INTRODUCTION
The WSBA asks each WSBA member to complete and return the following electronic survey. Participation in the survey is voluntary.
The primary purpose of this survey is to assist Legal Services Organizations in matching the pro bono interests and skill levels of WSBA members with the legal needs of persons of limited means or the legal needs of the Legal Services Organizations themselves. The survey also asks questions designed to identify barriers and incentives applicable to WSBA members’ performance of pro bono services.
As used in this survey, the term “Legal Services Organization” means a not-for-profit organization whose primary purpose is to provide legal services to low income clients within Washington State or to assist persons of limited means within Washington State. The term “pro bono services” means intentionally providing legal services for no fee to an indigent client or an organization whose primary mission is to serve low income persons.
The WSBA (possibly working with law students or other volunteers who are not WSBA employees) intends to compile the information obtained from this survey and provide the results, including individual members’ responses, to current and future Legal Services Organizations to assist them in their efforts to place pro bono matters with lawyers having relevant interests and skill levels.
By completing and returning this survey, you are NOT committing to handle any pro bono matter at any time, but are consenting to have your name, contact information, and your individual survey response data sent to current and future Legal Services Organizations, so those organizations can contact you to see if you are available when needs arise within your interest areas and skills.
Following completion of the survey, you may or may not be contacted by a Legal Services Organization. If you are contacted, you are free to decline or to accept any number of referrals. You may also ask the organization to remove your name from its contact list at any time.
Please do not contact the WSBA to seek pro bono referrals. Pro bono opportunities can be found at advocateresourcecenter.org, under “Pro Bono Opportunities.”
Questions or comments regarding this survey may be directed to Andy Guy (WSBA Member No. 9278) at: aaguy@stoel.com.
