Grant Reviewer Job Application

2009 Hewlett Packard Innovation in Education Grant Initiative

Welcome to the Grant Reviewer Job Application Home Page for the HP Innovation in Education Grant Initiative. Individuals with knowledge and experience in applying technology to teaching in ways that make a positive difference in student learning in secondary classrooms or in higher education are encouraged to apply.

Reviewers will gain valuable insights about successful grant writing, and enjoy the satisfaction of helping deserving school districts and higher education programs. The U.S. versions of the current HP grant programs are described at http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/grants/us/hpiie.html. The program will offer similar Requests for Proposals in other regions of the world. The HP proposal review process involves a limited time commitment with the flexibility of online reviewing.

Please read the Reviewer Responsibilities below for details about eligibility and the required time commitment. Returning reviewers: Note that the HP educational grant program has changed. Please read the details of the new program and training below.

Application deadline: February 20, 2009.

Grant Reviewer Responsibilities

Time commitment:
Reviewers will need to read and score proposals within a specific timeframe. Reviewers will be asked to complete 15-30 reviews between April 13-May 14, 2009. Exact dates will depend on the particular assignments. We estimate it will take about 30 minutes or less per application.

Training:
Reviewers will be expected to participate in a two hour orientation/training web conference tentatively scheduled for the week of March 16-20, 2009. Reviewers will also need to complete online practice reviews sometime between March 16-27, 2009.

These sessions will be offered several times during the designated week at different times so that all reviewers may participate.

Process:
Grant submissions will be available for review online and in printable form, and must be scored online. Reviewers must have Internet access; broadband is recommended, but a dial-up connection is acceptable.

Compensation:
Reviewers are compensated at a rate of $12.50 per completed review.

Confidentiality & Conflicts of Interest:
To maintain the integrity of the HP grant reviewing process, proposal reviewers for the 2009 HP Innovation in Education Grant Initiative may not submit an application for the Grant nor consult with schools who are submitting a proposal in 2010 or 2011. In addition, information related to being an HP grant reviewer, including as HP's grant selection process, guidelines, scoring criteria, and other materials provided to reviewers is HP proprietary and may never be shared without the written approval of Hewlett Packard. Consistent with HP's Standards of Business Conduct, current HP employees are not eligible for compensation for this work.

HP Employees:
We encourage HP employees to apply, but please note that, consistent with HP's Standards of Business Conduct, there will be no financial compensation for participation of current HP employees.

Notification:
All applicants will be notified of their status by March 1, 2009. Accepted applicants will receive a contract electronically which they must print, sign, and fax to ISTE by March 15, 2009.
