Requirements: Library staff or volunteers visit one or more elementary schools in person to promote your Summer Reading program. Individual classroom visits, school assemblies, and field trips by individual classes to the public library qualify. Preschools, daycares, Head Start and other community programs do not qualify for this outreach option.

If you have a neighboring library that serves the same school, please coordinate with each other before you apply. This opportunity is available on a first come, first served basis. Supplies are limited and once supplies are depleted, no additional applications can be accomodated.

What the library recieves: Participating libraries receive branded nylon flying disks, with storage pouch, to give to elementary-age students. Libraries will also receive one package of 25 plastic book bags with loop handles. There is no limit to the number of schools, but the give-aways are only available for elementary-age children (K-6th).

4. I agree to fulfill the requirements for School Visits as listed above.

Underserved Children

Underserved children include children who live below the poverty line, who are reading below grade level, are English language learners, children who live in rural areas, or children who are unable to use the library, like children in daycare or those who do not have transportation.

Requirements: Libraries must have a community partner: an agency, organization, daycare or school that can help the library reach underserved children. Participating libraries are required to plan at least two programs targeting underserved children to be held outside the library during your summer reading program (June, July, and August). Suggested locations include: a park, daycare, school or other community location.

What libraries will receive: Participating libraries will receive a "Make a Splash" yard sign to help identify their outreach program; ready-to-color moose antlers for younger children and a kid's newspaper for older kids. Age-appropriate paperback books (preK through 6th grade) will be provided based on the information submitted in question #8. Some bilingual/Spanish books may be available upon request.

7. I agree to fulfill the requirements for Underserved Children as listed above.

8. Please list your partner(s) [please note, only one partner is required], tentative program location, tentative date and number of children you expect to reach at each program below. You will be provided with paperback books to match the ages of the children you list below.

If you are not applying for any other Bright Futures opportunties, go to question 9.
