Thank you for offering to become a member of the Friends of Reston Regional Library, Inc. Through sales of donated books and selected other items we provide new books, subscriptions, equipment, furniture, and programs that support the patrons and staff of the Reston Regional Library and the Fairfax County Public Library System generally.
Our members can take an active part in the Friends by volunteering to staff positions in the organization as well as pay dues, give money and book donations. Volunteering opportunities are listed below.

While we absolutely do not share our individual membership information with other organizations, we do send periodic special announcements related to the activities of the Reston Library and Friends, such as upcoming book sales. Following are some examples of the volunteering interests and experiences that are available. Please indicate the one(s) that you are interested in exploring with us. Volunteers are screened and trained prior to acceptance and assignment.

NOTE: Please understand that some of the work may require physical strength and dexterity, as noted below.

NOTE: Please understand that some of the work may require physical strength and dexterity, as noted below. Book sales - working book sale setup, customer assistance/restocking during sale, tear down. Must have physical ability to lift book boxes.

Sorting - reviewing donated books; sorting by category, condition, saleability; boxing for storage. We will train you. Requires 2-4 hours regular work per week; physical ability to lift book boxes.

Public Affairs - generating community interest with both the public and organizations in the Friends and the Reston Library; retail/customer experience or marketing.

Accounting/Finance - cashiering, bookkeeping, IRS and corporate filings, financial planning and budgeting.

eCommerce/Web - selling books online and creating an internet presence. Some box lifting necessary.

Writing/Blogging - writing articles for the newsletter, helping with content for the blog, minutes from meetings.

Legal - advising the Board of Directors and officers on governance, legal rights and responsibilities of the organization.

Membership - maintaining membership database; membership retention; expanding membership; donor development.

Specialized knowledge/skill - to evaluate specialty books or high value books, for example foreign language, music, arts, sciences, etc.
