HIV is the virus that causes AIDS.
HIV is infecting young people ages 14-25 at the fastest rates.
HIV attacks white blood cells, so that they can’t protect the body from illnesses.
You can’t get HIV from a sneeze, sweat, saliva, or tears.
You can only get HIV through blood to blood contact, unprotected sexual activity, or birth or breastfeeding from a mother with HIV if she doesn’t take the right medicine.
You can get tested for HIV at AIDS support services, a doctor's office, or a free clinic.
You should get tested 2-3 months after you think you've been exposed to HIV, and another 2-3 months after that if you test negative. If you test positive, you should always get a second test.
HIV medications can cause upsetting side effects, and patients may have to change medications as their bodies become resistant to certain drugs.
There is no cure for HIV.
