1. Introduction
The American Planning Association is conducting this survey to determine where and how planners use artistic, cultural or creative strategies (such as festivals, painting, storytelling, photography, electronic media, formal and informal arts exhibits, performances, etc.) in the planning process and to achieve social, economic, environmental and community goals. We are looking for cases and examples to illustrate these strategies.
The results of this survey will help inform practicing planners, policymakers, economic development and community development professionals, and urban designers about this connection between arts, culture and creativity and planning practice.
All questions that ask about “your community” refer to the jurisdiction or municipality in which you work now. If you practice planning in multiple locations, please answer questions by thinking of what you most often encounter as a planning professional.
Each question can be answered in terms of you or your organization’s typical level of involvement.
This survey is divided into 3 sections:
• Methods, Tools and Activities
• Planning Practice
• Your Background
We estimate that the survey will take you no more than 15 minutes to fill out. Please note: all survey responses must be submitted by July 19, 2009.
If you have any questions, please contact Kimberley Hodgson at the American Planning Association. She can be reached via email at khodgson@planning.org.
