This has been an amazing decade of accomplishment, achievement and recognition for the University of Central Florida. Don’t miss your opportunity to cast votes for the most important UCF stories from the 2000s.

A panel of UCF experts developed a list of the 10 most significant stories of the decade that demonstrate how we have fulfilled our promise that "UCF Stands For Opportunity." We need you to select the top five stories.

There are no right or wrong answers, and the selection criteria are completely up to you.

Select the five most memorable stories from the 2000s from the list below. UCF's Growth with Quality: Home to about 33,000 students in fall 2000, UCF’s strategic growth and rising academic standards resulted in 53,537 students and record SAT and GPA scores in fall 2009. UCF is the third-largest university in the country.

Student Life Flourishes: By the end of the decade, UCF boasts the most on-campus and affiliated housing of any university in Florida, a state-of-the art Recreation and Wellness Center and hundreds of opportunities for students to become involved on campus and reach new academic heights.

UCF research tops $100 million: From education to biomedical sciences to modeling and simulation, UCF faculty members have brought in at least $100 million in research grants each year from 2005 to 2009 and have received national recognition for the power of their patents.

Bright House Networks Stadium Opens: Built thanks to the generosity of donors, the stadium opens in 2007 with a game against national powerhouse Texas. A sellout crowd of more than 45,000 watches a thrilling game.

Rosen College Opens in Tourism Corridor: The Rosen College of Hospitality Management opened its own campus near International Drive in 2004 and is one of the fastest-growing hospitality programs in the country. It boasts on-campus residence halls that create a thriving living-learning environment.

U.S. News Spotlights UCF: In 2009, U.S. News & World Report’s "Best Colleges Guide" featured UCF in a campus visit and named us a top 5 national 'university to watch." UCF was No. 7 in 2008.

College of Medicine / Medical City: A first-of-its-kind scholarship program helped UCF make history when it welcomed its first class of 41 med students in 2009. The growing "medical city" at Lake Nona is pumping billions into the regional economy.

President Hitt as a Central Florida Leader: Recognized as one of the most respected and effective leaders in the region, President John C. Hitt was named "Central Floridian of the Year" by the Orlando Sentinel and regularly is voted one of the most powerful people in the region.

Power of Partnerships: The Florida High Tech Corridor Council, of which UCF is a founding member, earned international recognition for its efforts to grow high-tech industry and its more than $650 million downstream economic impact.

UCF Stands for Opportunity: UCF’s increased local and national reputation helps attract top students, faculty and staff members and educational partners. UCF regularly appears in national media such as The Wall Street Journal, The Chronicle of Higher Education, USA Today, The New York Times and more.
