Densho Poll - April 2009

Densho Education Program

Thank you for participating in Densho's monthly poll. We will share the results in the next eNews.
Densho is in the democracy education business. We want to help teachers not just convey the historical facts of the Japanese American incarceration, but also instill in the next generation an appreciation for the rights and responsibilities of living in a democracy. Please tell us how you think Densho should pursue this goal.

1. In a recent Annenberg Foundation poll, one-third of respondents could not name the three branches of government. Most high schools offer only one class in civics, and as an option rather than a requirement. Do you believe studying civics and other social studies should be required for graduation?
2. What topics do you believe Densho should assist in teaching? Please rank by importance.
