Tree Stewards - Participation in Tree Giveaways/Distribution
1. Introduction
For the last five years, Arlington County has given away young trees to Arlington residents. Originally these were distributed during the Neighborhood Day parade, but for the last four years they have been distributed through the Neighborhood Civic Associations.
Two species of trees were distributed each year – one larger canopy species and one smaller:
2009 Hazelnut, Bur oaks
2008 Serviceberry, Tulip poplar, Red maple
2007 Fringe, Black gum
2006 Sweetbay magnolia, Chestnut oak
2005 Red Oaks, Flowering dogwoods
2004 Redbuds, White oaks
Sometimes other trees were also available, and some residents took more than one of each type since there was not a limit.
The purpose of this survey is to learn the status of those trees, and to identify Arlington residents interested in other tree programs.
