How Cross-disciplinary Collaboration and Meaningful Methods can Overcome Challenging Product Development Initiatives

Designing for affinity is key to creating positive experiences with products, however how is this to be accomplished when the technology the product embodies is new to the world, and the community of use has divergent and extreme cognitive, physical, and emotional needs? In this case study we will show how iterative collaboration between designers, researchers, and technologists, as well as focused and thoughtfully applied generative and evaluative research methods, can deliver a product that is useful, usable, and creates a strong affinity with its users. For some products, affinity is more than a purchase driver; it can impact compliance and even a person’s health.
