. Parenting Styles across Generations
This study was approved by the school of Social Science Research Ethics Committee on June 2, 2009.
The Department of Psychology at Brunel University requires that all persons who participate in psychology studies give their written consent to do so. Please read the following and sign it if you agree with what it says.
I freely and voluntarily consent to be a participant in the research project entitled "Parenting Styles across Generations" to be conducted at Brunel University, with Farah Anastas as supervisor or principal investigator. The broad goal of this research program is to explore parenting styles across generations. Specifically, I have been told that I will be asked to answer a set of questionnaires. The session should take no longer than 15 minutes to complete.
I have been told that my responses will be kept strictly confidential. I also understand that if at any time during the session I feel unable or unwilling to continue, I am free to leave without negative consequences. That is, my participation in this study is completely voluntary, and I may withdraw from this study at any time. My withdrawal would not result in any penalty, academic or otherwise. My name will not be linked with the research materials, as the researchers are interested in parenting styles across generations in general -- not any particular individual's parenting style across generations in particular. I have been given the opportunity to ask questions regarding the procedure, and my questions have been answered to my satisfaction. I have been informed that if I have any general questions about this project, or ethical issues relating to the project, I should feel free to contact Farah Anastas at ht08ffa@brunel.ac.uk. Further inquiries can also be directed to Dr. Tara Marshall, supervising investigator at tara.marshall@brunel.ac.uk. If I have any concerns or complaints regarding the way in which the research is or has been conducted I may contact Professor David Bunce, Chair of the Psychology Research Ethics Committee, at david.bunce@brunel.ac.uk.
Participation in this study does not involve any physical or personal harm, and no intrusive questions are asked. Your participation in this study will help you gain insight into parenting practices and the influence of culture.
I have read and understand the above and consent to participate in this study.
