Thank you for your interest in submitting an application to serve on the committee for revision of the NBPTS standards for early childhood and middle childhood generalists. The application process is currently open and will be available through 11:59p, EST on November 29.

Prior to submitting your application you might find it helpful to know what to expect in the coming months should you be selected to serve on the standards committee:
• The committee will be comprised of 12-15 members selected from a nationwide search, representing a diverse group of stakeholders in the field.
• The committee will meet a minimum of four times between January and July in the Washington, DC metro area; each meeting will be three-to-five days in length. Additional meetings may be required. Meetings typically take place during weekends, although some weekdays are also required. NBPTS will reimburse for substitute teachers if requested by the district.
• The committee will work electronically and online between meetings using Microsoft SharePoint, WebEx, conference calls and email. You will receive training and technical support as needed to work successfully in a collaborative online environment.

The standards committees will be tasked to review and revise as necessary the existing Early Childhood Generalist Standards and Middle Childhood Generalist Standards, which serve as the basis of assessments used in the National Board Certification process. It is anticipated the standards committees will make final recommendations to the NBPTS Board of Directors on the Early Childhood Generalist Standards and Middle Childhood Generalist Standards during the 2010 calendar year.

NBPTS is committed to assuring its standards reflect teachers in all teaching situations and in all areas of the country. The committee selection process includes a careful review of all applications received, attending to demographic and diverse perspectives.

NBPTS recognizes its vast responsibility to build a high-quality system that will elevate the teaching profession and lead to improvements in the education of all students in the United States. This responsibility can only be met with the contribution of knowledgeable, outstanding educators from across the country. Thank you for submitting an application to serve on the Early Childhood Generalist Standards Committee or Middle Childhood Generalist Standards Committee.
