American Whitewater is working to identify and protect a range of preferred whitewater boating flows for the mainstem of the Upper Colorado River, reaching from Kremmling to Glenwood Springs, Colorado.

As part of our Upper Colorado River Protection Project, American Whitewater is working to ensure commercial rafting interests are represented in the review and revision of the BLM's Resource Management Plan for the Glenwood Springs and Kremmling Field Offices. Data collected here from Commercial outfitters will be combined with data collected on float-fishing and private boating flow preferences, giving AW and it's stakeholders a better understanding of the range of flows needed to support whitewater recreation on the Colorado River. Our focus in this survey is on identifying low, acceptable, and optimum flows for whitewater rafting experiences. The information we collect will provide us with data necessary to protect the outstanding recreational values of the Colorado River and propose any modifications to the Bureau of Land Management Resource Management Plan alternatives.

Please pass along the word about this survey to fellow Outfitters. The more responses we get the more useful our results will be. We will publish results of this survey as part of our report on the Upper Colorado River Protection Plan. The report will be made available for the benefit of paddlers with an interest in recreational opportunities on the Colorado river.
