. Jayne Dearborn started designing handbags as a path to healing after the loss of her son, Max, when he was only 7 years old. Max had AML a fairly rare form of leukemia that has a low survival rate. Jayne was obviously devastated by the unthinkably tragic loss of her son, but also realized that it was important for her to find a way to deal with this loss in a healthy way so that she could be good mom for her other two wonderful sons, Michael and Sam.
One day during a visit to a fabric store she noticed that she actually felt happy, and she hadn't had that feeling in a long time. She soon found that designing bags, something she had never done before, was a cathartic experience that helped her find peace. Soon the whole family was part of the process. Her oldest son even designed her first logo and her loving husband, Chris, manages the sales. Hope and healing is a integral part of their family business. Today the Dearborns dedicate a portion of all of the handbags to help fund childhood cancer research and have even started a non-profit dedicated to finding a cure and supporting families dealing with AML.
We recognize that this is both a story of heartache and inspiration. We are hoping you can tell us how you feel about supporting a company with this kind of mission.

I love to hear the background and passion behind the creation of new businesses and am more likely to support them - and I feel good about my purchase.
I only research the background after I find a product I like for other reasons like quality, price, customer service, etc.
I find that the background of sad or tragic experiences can be painful to think about and it is overwhelming. Makes me sad when I see the product.
