1. Rising Gasoline Prices - Can Ethanol Help?
I am a student at the University of Sioux Falls working on a research project to find out what the amount of general public awareness is of the alternative fuel, Ethanol (E-85).
Gasoline has recently seen many swings in its prices and it has left the driver feeling vulnerable to its high costs. These recent price increases have also increased usage of ethanol, the number of news stories, and questions. I am interested to see what the consumers' personal dependence on gasoline is, if ethanol is a realistic alternative, and how the consumer has been affected by the rising prices of gasoline. If you are someone who relies on driving in your daily routine I would appreciate it if you would spend a few minutes assisting me with my research project by completing this survey. You can see the results after you finish. Thanks. Matt Johnson.

A flexible fuel vehicle (FFV) is an automobile that can run on ethanol fuel produced from corn. This fuel is a mixture of 85% ethanol and 15% gas. The price of the fuel in Sioux Falls has remained steady at $1.69/gallon through the volatility of gas and recently there were six fueling stations added bringing the total to seven. FFV is an option in certain vehicles and these vehicles can run on both ethanol and regular gasoline in the same tank. There are approximately five million FFV’s in the US and 4,000 in the Sioux Falls area.
