PHYTOPLASMA DIAGNOSTICS SURVEY

Serological and molecular techniques for the detection of plant pathogens are being developed by Ohio State University faculty.

In order bring to market quality, diagnostic assay kits that best satisfy the needs of diagnostic labs and their customers, we are requesting a few minutes of your time to provide us with your input.

1. Does your laboratory provide diagnostic testing which utilizes serology to detect plant pathogens?

2. If yes, what are the primary companies from which you purchase serological diagnostic kits?

3. Does your laboratory provide diagnostic testing which utilizes PCR to detect plant pathogens?

4. If yes, what are the primary companies from which you purchase PCR diagnostic kits?

5. Please provide relevant contact information for your laboratory below:

6. Do you currently offer testing for phytoplasmas (mycoplasma-like organisms)?

7. Serological?

8. PCR?

9. Have you experienced any major problems or issues with this testing?

10. Please explain (from question #9):

11. Do you perceive a need for an assay to detect phytoplasmas (mycoplasma-like organisms)?

PCR? Serological lab kit? Serological field kit?
Yes
No

12. Would a general assay kit that detects all phytoplasmas be used by your laboratory?

13. Would a specific phytoplasma detection kit (assay that detects members of a specific group, e.g. aster yellows) be used by your laboratory?

14. Please name the phytoplasmas for which you would utilize a GENERAL assay kit.

15. Please name the phytoplasmas for which you would utilize a SPECIFIC assay kit.

16. What is the likelihood that your lab would purchase these kits if available in the near future from a reputable firm?

17. What is the reason that it would be unlikely for you to purchase phytoplasma assay kits?

18. Please estimate the annual quantity of phytoplasma assays your lab would run. (assays/yr.)

19. Approximately what price range would make it feasible for you to purchase these assays when available (if applicable)?

20. If you have any questions or have comments to share, please feel free to utilize the space below. We appreciate your time and valuable input.

THANK YOU!
