ABOUT THE PROJECT
This Zoning Update update is intended to codify policies and recommendations from the City’s 2019 Comprehensive Plan and ensure the City of Dunkirk's land use regulations are aligned with key smart growth development principles.
An update to the zoning regulations will help to further define the appropriate regulatory approach for achieving the development goals outlined in the Comprehensive Plan, as well as other recent planning initiatives, such as the 2023 Downtown Revitalization Initiative Strategic Investment Plan. The code updates will address and guide new development and redevelopment within the City meeting demands that come with community growth. Through the code updates, the City aims to achieve the following:
• Ensure a safe and healthy community;
• Meet community housing needs;
• Remove barriers to investment and support business growth and retention;
• Plan for reinvestment and redevelopment;
• Enhance and protect parks and natural resources;
• Implement Smart Growth principles for a more sustainable development; and
• Improve the readability and format of the Zoning Law for ease of use.
