Paediatricians at all levels play a crucial role in safeguarding and child protection. It's vital for the health and wellbeing of children and young people that you are able to execute your duties effectively.

Therefore we are interested in finding out about how you achieve the safeguarding competencies appropriate to your role, your confidence that you can achieve these competencies and what is available to support you to do so. There are also some specific questions about the safeguarding SPIN module - your thoughts about this would be appreciated as well.

Your responses will be used to redesign safeguarding training where possible and help reshape the safeguarding SPIN to make it more accessible for trainees and better support supervisors in their roles. They will be also be used to help inform the RCPCH as to how best to offer guidance, resources and education to all paediatricians on achieving safeguarding competencies.

Note this survey is not directed towards named and designated paediatricians (though the questions related to SPIN may be relevant). If you wish to discuss your learning and development needs relevant to this role, please contact Suma Surendranath (RCPCH Education and Professional Development Lead for Safeguarding Education)

Completion of this survey is voluntary and the data collected is anonymous and cannot identify you. However, if you wish to discuss any of your responses further, you can provide your email address at the end of the survey. You email address will only be used to contact you about safeguarding/child protection and you can change your mind at any time contacting Suma.

The survey should take you around 20 minutes to complete. Please submit your responses by 5pm on Friday 12th March 2021.

Many thanks in advance for your assistance.

Sarah Boutros (Paediatric Registrar and CPSIG (Child Protection Special Interest Group) Trainee Rep), Jennifer Wallace (ST6 Paediatric trainee), Rebecca Moore (ST7 Paediatric trainee) and Suma Surendranath (RCPCH)
