Question Title

* 5. PARADE MARSHALLS WANTED
If you are able to provide Parade Marshalls for your Parade Entry, that would be appreciated. Volunteer numbers are down generally, and it has been more and more difficult to get a good number of volunteers to guide the Parade.

Parade Marshalls keep an eye on the crowd to ensure they keep a distance from their parade entry and set a safe pace for their parade entry to follow. Parade Marshalls can still participate in the Parade presentation by being in costume or holding banners, for example. Their presence supports the safety of their fellow parade entrants by being leaders for their group and giving their parade group good guidance.

It is recommended you consider two Marshalls for the front of your parade entry and depending on the size of your entry another two along side or more for really large groups.

If you can provide some Parade Marshalls for your Parade Entry, please advise how many. Thank you.

The instructions of the Mount Isa City Council, Police, SES and Rotary must be obeyed. Parade participants must adhere to the parade route and keep within the parade timeframe. Failure to comply with instructions by officials could result in removal from the parade and exclusion from future parades.
  8. Slow moving participants, or those who don’t comply with the guidelines may be disqualified from the judging criteria, or not permitted to participate in the parade.
  9. All floats must be able to maintain their speed and position throughout the parade.
  10. The distance between floats shall be kept at a safe distance with no overtaking.
  11. Children participating in the parade must be under the direct supervision of a responsible adult at all times.
  12. Suitably experienced adults must accompany animals at all times and will be deemed responsible for the animal and crowd safety during the parade and marshalling. The Mount Isa City Council reserves the right to assess and/or refuse the involvement of animals on a case by case basis.
  13. Drivers of all vehicles must have zero blood alcohol content.
  14. Do not spray water or other liquids on the spectators as damage may be caused to mobile phones and other personal electronic devices.
  15. Avoid using loud siren, horns, whistles throughout the parade route, especially if animals are participating in the parade. Please note that Music and Lights are most welcome, you must ensure however that it’s volume doesn’t overwhelm your parade neighbours!
  16. Possession and/or consumption of alcoholic drinks are prohibited.
  17. The entry described on your application shall be the only entry that will be allowed into the parade.
  18. Each float shall designate one contact person and one alternate contact person and one or both of these people must be on the float on parade day.
  19. Inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated, and will result in immediate withdrawal by event staff or a nominated representative.
  20. The designated contact person shall ensure that the float and all float participants comply with the parade and float rules.

  24. Vehicles and fittings shall comply with any and all applicable laws, regulations and standards.
25. Vehicles and trailers shall be properly serviced to avoid breakdown (fuel, oil, water, tyres, battery etc) before reporting to the marshalling area.

26. Horses in the Parade must wear a horse manure catcher, this is so we can place horses near the front of the parade as last year we had them last and it was felt that this increased their stress levels and we don’t want later parade entrants walking through horse manure. THIS RULE IS UNDER REVIEW, due to new Parade Location we may be able to safely have horses participate last.

27. To reduce the risks of personal injury please do not throw objects in the crowd of spectators.  Objects such as sweets, balloons etc  are not to be thrown from the floats but instead, handed out below eye level in the parade route.

28. All entries must keep in motion – DO NOT STOP unless by necessity or instruction from a parade marshal.

29. Make sure that structures, bunting, decorations and passengers on the float are safely secured.

30. Remember this is a Family Friendly Event, potentially offensive or political content won't be accepted and Council reserve the right to refuse inclusion in the parade for entries that present with this content.
