Responsible Pet Ownership

Since 10 April 2017 Council has required all new cats to be desexed prior to being registered, unless they are exempt under the Domestic Animals Act 1994 (the Act and amendments) from any requirement to be desexed. Undesexed cats that were registered prior to this date have not be affected.

Since 10 April 2017 Council have required cat owners to contain their cats to their property between sunset and sunrise, unless restrained and otherwise controlled and in the presence of their owner.

Cats can still be trapped on private property during the daytime if they are causing a nuisance to the property owner.

Through this survey we hope to raise awareness of the benefits of cat containment and desexing and gather information on the community's views.

Council collects and holds this Personal Information in accordance with the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (Vic) Principles.
