Career Chats are one-time, informational meetings that pair individual 3Ls with alumni who work in the student’s area of interest for a conversation over coffee, tea or another beverage at a local Starbucks. The idea is for alumni to share advice that can help students advance their job searches and make career connections that can enhance their employment prospects. Here’s how it works: Students register and record their practice area and career interests with CDO. Alumni register their practice areas and professional backgrounds with CDO. Then the CDO connects students with alumni who work in students’ areas of interest. Students take the lead in contacting their alumni matches. Once students notify the CDO about their confirmed, scheduled meetings with alumni, they receive $10 Starbucks gift cards to cover the cost of refreshments. They also receive tips from the CDO to help prepare for their informational meetings.
If you live outside the Baltimore-Washington, DC area and would be willing to speak with students or recent graduates who may be relocating to your area, please sign up as well.
Career Chats are made possible thanks largely to the generosity of Maryland Carey Law alumnus John B. Isbister ‘77.
