About GEAR UP West:
GEAR UP West is a collaborative regional conference for college access practitioners from the western states of the US. The conference draws approximately 500 participants from ten western states: AZ, CA, CO, HI, ID, MT, NM, NV, OR, UT, WA, & WY. Attendees include GEAR UP and other college access program staff, evaluators, higher education professionals, and middle and high school teachers, counselors, and administrators. All those working to help low-income and underrepresented students prepare for and succeed in college are welcome to attend.
 
GEAR UP West will take place in beautiful Boise Idaho on October 14-16, 2018. Registration for participants is expected to open in May.
 
 
About the Call for Proposals:
Parties interested in presenting a conference session should complete all required components of this survey.
 
This Call for Proposals will close on June 15, 2018. Proposals will be reviewed by the GEAR UP West planning committee and all successful presenters will be notified by mid July.
 
Presenters whose proposals are selected will be responsible for all costs associated with travel to and from the conference however, up to two presenters per session will receive a discount on registration.

Please remember that GEAR UP West is a regional conference. All proposed session content should be applicable to participants from multiple states.
 
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following:

-Building resilience for students and for practitioners.
-Apprenticeships and other postsecondary pathways.
-Cross-sector collaboration, partnerships, and collective impact.
-Equity and support for underrepresented populations (gender equity, ELL, students of color, DREAMers, youth who are in foster care and/or are experiencing homelessness).
-Financial literacy.
-Family engagement.
-Postsecondary transition, summer melt, and persistence.
-Grant management.
-Growth mindset and non-cognitive skills.
-Evaluation and effective program practices.
-Data collection and analysis, strategies for documenting program success and identifying areas for improvement.
-Research-based practices and strategies.
-Continuous improvement and sustainability.
-Advocacy in the school or community.
