Town of Foster 2024 Hazard Mitigation Plan Update Survey The Town of Foster is updating our 2018 Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP). We have contracted Fairweather Science, LLC, based in Anchorage, Alaska, to facilitate and guide the Planning Team through the HMP update process. Once completed, the Town will adopt the HMP and it will be submitted to the State of Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency (RIEMA) and then to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for final review and approval. Once the adopted plan is approved by FEMA, the Town will be eligible to apply for grant funding to protect Foster's assets from natural hazards. For more information about mitigation planning, please see FEMA guidance here: https://www.fema.gov/emergency-managers/risk-management/hazard-mitigation-planning/regulations-guidanceThe HMP will:1. Describe natural hazards that occur in Foster. 2. Identify the assets (people and facilities {infrastructure}) within Foster that are at risk from natural hazards. 3. Identify and prioritize projects to mitigate the potential damages to infrastructure. The purpose of this plan is to inform our community of the vulnerabilities to natural hazards; better plan development within Foster; and enable the Town to be eligible to apply for grant funding. Those projects prioritized will be pursued for implementation. This plan will be updated using the most current scientific information, but it is a FEMA requirement that the public be provided the opportunity to provide input. The results of this survey will be provided to the Planning Team to review prior to the Plan finalization. Specifically, the Planning Team will consider suggested mitigation projects and confirmation of identified hazards and critical facilities and include any that were missed.Documentation of the planning process and ongoing public participation is a crucial part of this project. If you have any questions or comments, please contact the HMP Planning Team Leader Grant McGregor at planner@townoffoster.com or our contractor, Laura Young at laura.young@fairweather.com Question Title * 1.
