Thank you for your interest!

We are very excited that Tell Me Who You Are: Sharing Our Stories of Race, Culture, and Identity - A Road Map for Cultivating Racial Literacy by Winona Guo and Priya Vulchi has been chosen as the 2021 FYRE selection!  We appreciate you taking the opportunity to get involved with the First Year Experience as a facilitator of a discussion group by completing this survey. We encourage you to consider helping us coordinate an event or program throughout the year based off of the themes presented in the book.

Please fill in the information below depending on your interest in either (1) serving as a facilitator and/or (2) incorporating the FYRE selection into your fall course!

We will be mailing your book to you in June.  More information will come out over the summer regarding the discussion group format as fall event guidelines become firmer.

Question Title

* 5. Are you interested in incorporating the FYRE book into a class you are teaching which has a high first-year student enrollment?

The schedule and format (virtual/in-person) for Opening Day is still being determined based on university and commonwealth guidelines.  It is scheduled for WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 1 (the first day of classes is Thursday September 2.)  Convocation will be held in the morning and FYRE discussions will happen in early afternoon.  Thank you for your patience as details are finalized.

Our goal will be to hold several virtual meetings in August for facilitators to talk about the book and process, in addition to posting additional asynchronous videos and resources on the FYRE Resource page.  These meetings will serve as an opportunity to informally speak about the book with colleagues, gather possible questions to use at the facilitation, discuss any anticipated challenges, and become better acquainted with themes in the book.

Over the next several months we will be adding more information to the FYRE Resource page with information about the book, suggested activities and discussion questions, and videos/documents which may assist you in better understanding the issues brought up in the book.

If you require accommodations, please contact Ezekiel Holt in Human Resources.

We look forward to having you as part of the facilitation team!
