I-WeBS & CBS Training Days 2017

The following training days have now been scheduled:
• 26th February (Sun) in Bush Hotel, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim.
• 4th March (Sat) in University of Limerick (Kilmurry Student Village), Limerick.
• 1st April (Sat) in Ballina Manor Hotel, Ballina, Co. Mayo.
The Irish Wetland Bird Survey (I-WeBS) and the Countryside Bird Survey (CBS) are two of Ireland's long-term bird monitoring surveys. They were both established during the 1990s and have since been undertaken annually. I-WeBS aims to monitor the status of wintering waterbirds (swans, geese, ducks, waders) and their key wetland sites, while the CBS monitors the status of common and widespread breeding birds (Robin, Wren, Blackbird, Chaffinch etc.). Click on the relevant link below for information about each of these surveys:

These surveys employ the efforts of more than 400 observers each year. These training days aim to encourage new and interested volunteers as well as to provide feedback to already existing participants. The format of the day will be informal and a fun-day is promised! There will be a brain-storming session to get some discussions going with a chance for you to ask any questions. There will be plenty of coffee breaks for you to chat with fellow counters too. Short talks to include:
  • Introductions to these monitoring schemes
  • The methods used
  • Handy tips on identification and what is required to participate
  • Key achievements of these projects

A light lunch will be provided, and we will head out in the afternoon to put some of the methods into practice. We would be grateful if you would complete this short questionnaire to help us gauge attendance on the day and any additional requirements, and we will send you further details of your chosen workshop closer to the day.

Thank you.
