Welcome to the charity auction for The Mission to Seafarers

Telegraph Travel and The Mission to Seafarers have joined forces with Cunard Lines, Fred.Olsen Cruise Lines and P&O Cruises to raise money for crew members and their families affected by Typhoon Haiyan. Each line is offering cruise cabins for two people (full details of each as set out below) with money raised from bids being donated to The Mission to Seafarers.

The Mission to Seafarers is leading support for Filipino crews on cruise and merchant ships who are affected by the Typhoon, by providing emergency communication facilities in 47 ports in the UK and worldwide. Donations will fund the Mission’s charitable welfare provision, including ship visiting, counselling including post-trauma and bereavement, the supply of free Wi-Fi and free phonecards to Filipino seafarers who are working on ships around the world, and urgently need to keep in touch with family and friends affected by the disaster; and to provide support for seafarers' centres where crews can rest off ship and get help.

100% of each donation will go to The Mission to Seafarers (registered charity number 1123613).

A minimum bid of £500 per cabin applies for each of the 22 cruises offered. The deadline for bids is midnight (GMT) Friday 22 November 2013. We will announce the winners on Monday 25 November 2013.

THANK YOU
Andrew Wright, Secretary General,The Mission to Seafarers said: “Anxious Filipino crewmen and women have converged on the world’s Mission to Seafarers’ centres over the weekend in the hope that they can quickly find out the situation at home, after Typhoon Haiyan. With around 364,000 Filipino seafarers crewing the global shipping fleet, we are very anxious to ensure that any crew member who needs to call home in an emergency can do so, regardless of the ability to pay. At the Mission, we have offered an immediate bursary for 7 days, to our directly funded international MtS centres, to enable worried and distressed seafarers free calls home, either by connecting to Wi-Fi or to fund the distribution of free phone cards, SIMs or top up cards. We will monitor this situation closely but it comes in response to so many Filipino seafarers who are far from home and are desperate to get news quickly as they come ashore in port.Thank you for helping The Mission to Seafarers”
