Women's Aid Survivor Survey - Experiences of Christmas

1.Introductory information

Who should fill out this survey?
This is a Women’s Aid survey for any woman who is experiencing domestic abuse or who has experienced domestic abuse at any point. This might be during a relationship with an abuser or after the end of a relationship.

What are we hoping to find out?
The aim of the survey is to hear about the challenges of keeping safe in the context of an abusive relationship, especially around Christmas. This includes the process of leaving an abusive relationship and accessing support.

When do I need to complete this survey?
The survey is open until the morning of Monday 2nd November, when we will start to review responses. The survey will be closed after this date.

How will findings from this survey be used?
We will use responses from this survey to amplify the experiences of survivors in our fundraising and communications materials. Any identifying factors will be removed, such as people’s names or place names. However, please be aware that it may still be possible for someone who knows you very well to identify any quotes we use from your responses. It may not be possible to share quotes or stories from every survey response due to the number of responses we receive. Your response to this survey will be securely stored. Your response will be kept for one year after publication of the findings (in case we need to go back to your response to check anything), after which time any identifying information will be removed, and anonymous data only stored for future use. Important online safety information
If you are living with an abuser, please do not complete this survey on a shared computer unless you have your own separate login and you are confident that the abuser does not know your password and will not see you completing the survey.

Safer ways to access this survey online may be to:
  • Switch to 'Incognito mode' or 'Private browsing' or 'InPrivate browsing" before completing the survey and turning this off afterwards (but be aware that if spyware has been installed on your device, someone may still be able to see what you are doing online). Be aware that if you have clicked on this survey link before doing this it will be in your internet browsing history (this can be deleted).
  • Use your smartphone when out alone.
  • Use a work computer (if you are currently going into your workplace).

Please be aware that many internet browser types have features that display recently visited sites even after you have deleted your recent internet history. We have more information on covering your tracks online here: www.womensaid.org.uk/cover-your-tracks-online/

If you only fill in part of the survey and have not pressed 'Done' at the end, your answers may still be there on your computer or smart phone even after you have closed your internet browser or switched your phone off.

Where can I get support or help?
Please note we are unable to respond directly to anything raised or requests for support in the survey. For help or support on the issues raised by the survey, please see www.womensaid.org.uk/information-support/
