Access All Areas Survey - Health Services

The Project:
Access All Areas is a community consultation and education project designed to improve inclusive practice and accessibility for people with disability in health, justice, and transport services in the ACT. Rebus Theatre will develop experiential workplace training programs based on community consultation about where things can go wrong when people with disability try to access these services, and how to change that.

These programs will be developed and delivered by a professional team of people with disability according to the following schedule:
·      health – March 2019
·      justice – October 2019
·      transport – March/April 2020

The first program will address accessibility and inclusion in health services, aiming to help employees and managers make their organisations more accessible and inclusive for people with disability.

NB Health services may include services such as physiotherapy and psychology as well as General Practitioners and hospitals.

How you can help:
To do this we need to hear real life stories from people with disability or their carers, about times that you have tried to access these services. We want to hear of any barriers you faced such as:
·      physical barriers such as steps and narrow or heavy doors;
·      attitudes of employees of an organisation or service;
·      processes such as ways of contacting an organisation or service;
·      timetabling;
·      cost.

We are also interested in hearing stories of times when health services got things right for you.

These stories will only be read by staff of Rebus Theatre, and used for inspiration in the development of the training. No identifying details will be used in the training, and the text you provide will be treated as confidential, and never be made public in any way. Some people who provide stories will also be asked to participate in a one-day workshop in Canberra to further assist the company in developing the program. Each workshop participant will receive $100 for their time.

Once developed, each training program will delivered at workplaces or conferences related to the relevant service across Canberra. During each training, trainees will be invited to practice inclusive behaviour in real time, and work together to find solutions to the barriers presented. NB: We are only seeking stories from people with disability in Australia, accessing services in Australia.

If you have questions at any time about the survey or the procedures, you may contact Artistic Director Robin Davidson via 0403 815 784 or by email at robin@rebustheatre.com.

This project is funded by the Australian Federal Government National Disability Insurance Agency's Information, Linkages and Capacity Building program.
