Background
Our families and the school district have an interest in running family friendly, financially sustainable and efficient bus routes. The best bus routes are convenient. They’re short and they pick-up and drop-off near your home. Increasing the number of routes helps to achieve this. However, each route adds an increased cost to the district, which can reduce the funds available to pay for other high priority needs.
How do school districts pay for transportation?
School districts are reimbursed, partly based on the number of students who ride the bus. When more students ride the bus, the reimbursement is increased and more routes can be added. Each rider generates approximately $1,000 in reimbursement from the State of Idaho. When reimbursement is increased, districts are able to add additional routes. Additional routes create family friendly convenience. For perspective, McCall-Donnelly spent approximately $600,000 on transportation for the 2018-2019 school year.
We are interested in better understanding your needs and improving transportation for families.
