Question Title

* 6. Please describe your transformation of the under-used space into a community garden. (Please keep to 300 words, surplus words will not be judged)

Suggested guidance; your answers may include:
  • What was it like before you started work?
  • How much work have you done to transform it into the community gardening space it is today?
  • How have you overcome any challenges along the way?
  • What factors were taken into account such as environmental or local issues?
  • Did you talk to the local community about making the changes?
  • Why did you transform this space, and why is it important to your groups' activities?
  • Is there anything that makes this space or project special or unique?
  • Has it benefitted the local environment, (such as helping nature thrive) or the local community?

Question Title

* 7. Please tell us about the people who are new to gardening and who have been making use of your transformed space. (Please keep to 300 words, surplus words will not be judged)

Suggested guidance - your answer may include:
  • Rather than listing generic groups (e.g. older people, isolated people, or parents) please try to identify the specific communities that have made use of the space such as residents of a local care home, people who live alone in a specific area or local food bankusers.
  • They may be from under-represented local communities such as ethnic groups or people with disabilities who do not have access to community gardens.
  • How you identified and approached the communities.
  • What gardening activities they have taken part in and positive changes they have seen, how you addressed any barriers to participation, how you intend to build lasting relationships and if this has led to long-term relationships or participation and learning.
  • Please tell us whether the new people have participated in a one off activity or whether they have become more regular gardeners.
  • Have there been wider impacts such as integrating more people with the community or improving civic pride in where people live and work?

Question Title

* 7a. How many people who are new to gardening have been making use of the transformed space? (Approximately 300 word limit)

If you do not know the exact number, please provide your best estimation.

8. Please upload a minimum of four images (maximum eight) of your transformed space and the people using it.

If you have one, please include an image of what the under-used space looked like before your Community Group transformed it.

You should include images that show how your community is making use of the gardening space, including the new people that are gardening as a result of your transformed space where possible.

Please try to include different elements of the transformed garden to demonstrate its uses. For example, this may include seating areas, food growing areas, signage for users or composting areas.
