Processes Followed when Hiring Superintendents

Dear Board President or Vice President:
This project has been reviewed by the WIU IRB Administrator and is deemed to be expedited research. Please know that participation in this study is voluntary and will take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to get your opinions, insights and suggestions related to the selection process that Illinois School Boards’ of Education follow when hiring a superintendent. Additionally, we are interested in this research for the purposes of completing a doctoral dissertation in educational leadership.
RISKS: The levels of risk involved in this study are minimal. Participants might need technical assistance with Survey Monkey. If difficulties arise you can contact the Survey Monkey HELP desk (icon in upper right hand corner) for their support. I have found them to be VERY helpful. Survey Monkey’s process is very simple and should not be difficult to complete.
Survey Monkey will allow you to stop and come back to finish at a later time. To do so, you must log in on the same computer upon which you started taking survey.
BENEFITS: Contribution to this study will possibly improve the selection processes districts' follow when hiring their superintendent.
CONFIDENTIALITY. No IP addresses will be collected and therefore all responses will be anonymous. No identifying information will be shared with anyone outside of the research team.
These raw data will be shared with the following faculty at Western Illinois University: Dr. Dean Halverson, Dr. Bridget Sheng, and/or Dr. Donna McCaw. It will be stored on my laptop in a password protected Survey Monkey account. At the end of the class, all information will be given to Dr. Dean Halverson and stored in a locked file cabinet for 3 years.
Typically, participants can withdraw from a study at any time. Due the anonymity of this online survey - withdrawing your survey will be impossible. The information may also be used for publications and presentations related to executive search processes.
